JK-BMS tests on real hardware

RS485-1 and RS485-2: complementary roles.

A test of parameter access while the other bus keeps its normal operation.

Test-bench BMS devices · addresses 0 and 2
RS485-1 · Active Polling

The software queries BMS devices and sends supported commands. The tests cover addresses 0 and 2.

RS485-2 · Broadcasting

The usual JK connection remains in use in parallel; a gateway allows its data to be monitored in Home Assistant.

Simplified functional diagram, not a wiring guide. Both connections are shown on the same BMS devices; the two ports are not electrically joined to each other.

What the 14 October video shows

The PC uses JK-BMS Monitor on RS485-1, with a master BMS at address 0 and a second BMS at address 2. The demonstration checks access to each BMS and LCD on/off control while RS485-2 keeps operating.

Two RS485 buses, running in parallel.

A JK-BMS Monitor demonstration: access BMS devices and control their LCD screens through RS485-1 while RS485-2 stays in service.

The next step in SmartPhoton DEV73

Subsequent tests used RS485-1 Active Polling in a test Home Assistant instance and RS485-2 Broadcasting in the production instance. Monitoring both BMS devices and LCD commands were checked on this test bench. Address-0 discovery correction and readback confirmation of changes are part of this work.

Scope of this validation

These observations apply to the tested BMS devices, firmware, commands and connections. They do not validate every write operation or topology. DEV73 remains a test development; check compatibility and availability in the version you use.

What still needs documenting

Endurance testing, the exact supported-command scope and a migration path should accompany a future stable release.
