My name is Jean-Luc Martinelli. SmartPhoton began with a practical need: understanding how my solar installation works and being able to control my inverter.
It all started with a Superwatt
In 2020, I bought a Superwatt hybrid inverter. I spent nearly a year understanding its RS232 communication and building software around Node-RED, Grafana, InfluxDB, Mosquitto and Linux.
From 2021, I chose to share it, support its users and keep improving it. I did not want to keep this tool to myself: others could use it to better understand their own installation.
Voltronic, Pylontech, then Home Assistant
Voltronic is an important part of this journey and helped people discover my work. Pylontech batteries joined my installation in 2022. Through tests and discussions, the topics broadened: serial communications, network gateways, MQTT, home automation and Home Assistant integrations.
The forum and the YouTube channel @domosimple extend this work: explaining, showing what works, discussing difficulties and learning from everyone's installations.
Today, JK-BMS takes the lead
JK-BMS is now the SmartPhoton project with the largest worldwide user base. That is why I put it first today, with battery monitoring, diagnostics and work on the new Multi-Pack generation.
The other topics remain part of the ecosystem: Voltronic, Pylontech / Pelio, KOSTAL and SmartPhoton Finance. My guiding principle stays the same: make data useful and connect equipment to home automation.
Your feedback, tests and forum discussions help compare developments with real installations. Work in progress is presented separately from available features.
